Canopy South Gets Creative

“One voice can change a neighborhood, and if one voice can change a neighborhood, then it can change a city, and if it can change a city, it can change a state, and if it can change a state, it can change a nation, and if it can change a nation, it can change the world.

Your voice can change the world.

When keeping our distance is the new normal, finding ways to connect as a community can present a big challenge. With large in-person meetings on hold, our community engagement team needed to get a little creative. In early September, Canopy South worked with A Midsummer’s Mural to create an interactive art installation at Miguel Keith Park to learn more from the neighborhood.

A chalkboard cube, with public art on one side and an invitation to share thoughts on another, was placed near the soccer field on 30th and Y streets. Area residents have been prompted by a rotating series of questions, to express their desires for the future. Since installing the chalkboard cube, Canopy South has had the opportunity to gain helpful feedback from the community, along with a few inspirational notes and drawings. When asked about their dream neighborhood – many responses related to happy, friendly people and family close by, highlighting the importance of people in the places we choose to live.
