Bringing Nature to the Neighborhood: Tree Planting Event Recap

Sustainability initiatives are important to Canopy South, which is why we were happy to partner with Urban Bird and the Nature Alliance on organizing a tree planting day. 35 volunteers and neighborhood residents planted trees at cornerstones in the community– the Simple Foundation, Catholic Charities, Miguel Keith Park, Bethel Baptist Church, and various greenspaces throughout the neighborhood.

The goal of the tree-planting event was to promote a thriving community and revitalize existing greenspaces. It was planned in response to community feedback that air quality is a concern for the future of the neighborhood. While the trees may not have a noticeable immediate impact, the goal is that the trees will make a multi-generational positive impact on the community’s environment, livability, and aesthetics.

Canopy South’s first tree-planting event was a success and we are grateful to the community members and volunteers who participated. This initiative is just the beginning of our efforts to create a greener, healthier, and more livable community. We’ll continue to work closely with local organizations and residents to identify and implement sustainable solutions for the Southside Terrace – Indian Hill neighborhood.

We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers and community members who participated and made the project possible. The day was rain-filled, which is why we’re even more grateful for the commitment of the team.
